Offshore wind energy potential in Galicia

We have participated in the preparation and presentation of the preliminary study on the potential of offshore wind energy in Galicia that was carried out at the ASIME headquarters.

The study proposes that there are areas in Galicia that, with the technological development expected of offshore wind power in the coming years, would allow the implementation of powers greater than 1.5 GW or 4 GW depending on the density scenario that is finally considered in the regulatory framework. All this, after establishing the most demanding restrictions, motivated by other essential activities of our social and economic fabric, such as: fishing, tourism, maritime traffic, etc. and considering the most demanding environmental restrictions.

If developed, it would be a very relevant tractor effect for the industrial and technological fabric of Galicia in the next 10 years. In the EU, a technological leader in this field, offshore wind power is considered one of the main technologies to achieve decarbonisation objectives, also providing a strong industrial fabric with high added value employment and with significant investments in R & D & i .
